4th Annual WI Muay Thai Camp

Saturday August 6, 2011
10:00 am to 3:00 pm

Over the last few years, the Wisconsin Muay Thai Camp has proven to be a great day, full of Muay Thai training. We expect nothing less of this years camp as Mike has put together three great sessions designed to give participants a true Muay Thai training experience. That being said, this years theme is Train Like you are in Thailand! The camp will begin with footwork basics, move to an in-depth look at Muay Thai techniques and pad feeding and end with conditioning drills to really make you feel like you are in Thailand! Please bring running shoes, boxing gloves, handwraps, shin guards, thai pads and focus mitts  (if you have them otherwise we will supply them). Also, bring PLENTY of water and a extra shirt as you will receive a great workout during this seminar.

Session One:
Move, Move, Move – Where's your Footwork!?
10am to 11:30am

It can be said that everything in Muay Thai is based on footwork, yet footwork can be easiest skill to over look. In Session One, Mike will run you through a variety of different footwork angles that will help your Muay Thai game. The drills will teach you how to get in and out of ranges efficiently, how to exit quickly after a combination, how to get off the ropes and how to cut off an opponent. This session is a must attend if you want to learn how to effectively use footwork to trick your opponent and bait them into getting what you want!

Session Two:
How to Properly Pad Feed
Noon to 1:30pm

It is no secret that what separates Muay Thai Kickboxing from other martial arts is the exciting Pad work. Session Two is designed to teach you how to effectively hold pads for your training partners to help improve their Muay Thai game. Mike will demonstrate different feeding techniques for punching, kicking, and punch to kick combo's, detached elbows and knees, and drills to enhance your Thai clinch. As one half learns to hold pads correctly, the other half will be focusing on the striking techniques, taking a more in-depth look in how to correctly throw each skill. The goal of this session is for the striker to hit slowly, have control of the techniques and learn the small details of each punch, kick, knee or elbow. Session Two will not only enhance your pad feeding skills, but will also improve your understanding of a variety of Muay Thai techniques, some basic and some advanced.

Session Three:
Muay Thai Kickboxing Conditioning
1:30 to 3:00 pm

The final session of this years camp will take the pad feeding drills from Session Two and put them into a circuit training workout. There will be several different stations, each focusing on a different drill. Students will complete multiple rounds at each station, moving from one to the other until each one has been completed. Mike wants to end the camp with a one of a kind workout that will challenge you and give you a new outlook on conditioning!
