TEAM BLAST is a professional team of individuals who have decided to take their martial art skill to the next level, competition. The team participates in three types of competition: Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), Muay Thai Kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ).
Mixed Martial ArtsMMA is becoming the fastest growing sport in the US today. The popularity of the sport is demonstrated by simply turning on Spike TV or Versus to watch UFC or WEC fights at any time of the day. MMA is a great sport to compete in, provided you train professionally and learn proper technique like that received from BLAST instructors. This sport is known for its standing striking and upright grappling; competitors do not go to the ground in this style of competition. The fights tend to be very exciting and action packed as competitors are display their Muay Thai Kickboxing striking skills. Students who are interested in competing in Muay Thai Kickboxing must sign up for our Muay Thai Kickboxing program. Proper training, commitment and coaching ability will all be important factors in how quickly you will compete. . Our goal is to provide you with solid skills, a strong fight strategy and have you in the ultimate shape by the time you step into the ring!! Brazilian Jiu JitsuBrazilian Jiu Jitsu is the art that made the UFC popular. Royce Gracies dominance of much larger competitors in the early years of the UFC demonstrated the versatility of BJJ. In this style of competition you will compete in ground grappling, working for control positions, sweeps and submissions when possible. There are typically two different types of competitions at a BJJ event: GI (BJJ Uniform) or No GI (shirt and shorts). Students score points for takedowns and different BJJ positions (i.e. sweeps, submission attempts, control positions). A submission cancels all points and results in a win at any point and time during the match. This style of competition is best for students who wish to compete without the risk of major injury.
